Dan Wees

Dan Wees is a visionary musician whose work from 1990 to 2000 spans a remarkable array of genres. From the soothing rhythms of New Age to the intricate complexities of Jazz, and the bold explorations of Avant Garde, Pop, Electronic, and Experimental music, Dan’s compositions have left an indelible mark on the music world. His innovative approach and dedication to his craft have garnered him a dedicated following and critical acclaim.

I compose music purely for my own enjoyment, not to please or attract anyone. Much of it is minimalist. I had a great time doing this in the 1990s, and this site is dedicated to my family and everyone who shared those experiences with me. Who knows, maybe you'll enjoy what you hear.

The Studio Albums

CABWEBS was my first project after purchasing a Roland HP2500S Digital Piano and an MT-32 Multi Timbre Sound Module. The sound manipulation was very basic and experimental. The first piece I recorded, titled 'Audio Delusion,' can be found on Cabwebs. I love the feeling of music in different time signatures. "Lavender Days" is one I did in alternating 4/4 & 5/4 time, or in 9 if you like. From the back cover: "All of the music on this CD was performed at leisure on a Roland Digital Piano with an MT-32 Sound Module and PR-100 Sequencer, from September 1990 through January 1991."

My second album, Belladonna, showcases more diversity and refined composition compared to my first. I embark on a faster-paced adventure in 'Jet-Benz,' employing a poly-meter technique where I layer a 4/4 keyboard vamp over a 5/4 bass rhythm. We tried performing it with my band 'Charlie Tooker,' but the bass player struggled to maintain the beat with this intricate overlap. From the back cover: "All of the music on this CD was performed at leisure on a Roland Digital Piano with an MT-32 Sound Module and PR-100 Sequencer, from February 1991 through June 1991."

If you fall to sleep listening to 'The Dream Suite', you’re welcome. More than 40 minutes of soothing textures for the soul. This was originally the “B-side” for the Belladonna cassette.

I invested considerably more time producing ‘Treatise’ and ‘Idiot’ compared to my initial recordings. This project includes three vocal tracks, two of which feature lyrics penned by my brother. My final solo recording of short, catchy tunes. This might be my favorite album.

Intimate Piano moments, improvised just as the century was ending.
